“Now when Jesus got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. Suddenly a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But he was asleep.”  Matt. 8v 23/24.

Our life’s journey can feel as if we are in a boat on the sea. Often, all is well. The sea is calm; our life is calm and Jesus is in the boat with us.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a storm erupts and engulfs us in its waves.

The calm of our lives is shattered by financial worries, health worries or a sudden bereavement, and whilst all this is happening… Jesus is asleep!

In that moment, as the disciples did, we can cry out Jesus, “Save us Lord!,” and wake Him up.

Jesus does not mind if we wake Him. He wants to be there for us… to be in the problem with us and help us through.

We can feel safe as we journey through life, as long as we remember that Jesus is in the boat with us.

He is ‘Emmanuel, God with us.’
